Cappellini Dream Cottage
There are projects born with a spark, at a moment of frustration over an inconvenience or problem of business. In June, 2003 we were in the Soho Showroom of Cappellini, involved in a project discussion with Giulio Cappellini. At the moment, there was a great sense of urgency, as there had been some issues with deliveries for the upcoming Trade Fair. It had been little time since Sept. 11, 2001 and beyond the added transportation struggles of doing business, Cappellini was moving into new markets in China, Russia, and The Mid East. Transport of showroom goods needed to be easier, more uniform and in total synchronicity with the Capellini Dream. It was in this moment the idea was stuck. Mr. Cappelini defined the requirements and the project was born.
The Capellini Dream went on to include this Concept Cottage that doubles as a portable show space. It folds up for shipping on one of many different inter–modal platforms. Land, Sea and Air down to the last Kilometer, making shipping possible to the most remote locations. It is fitted with an integrated plumbing and electrical system, that can be connected to major system types or couple to off-grid supplies. There is a restroom, kitchen and bedroom at the core with two small fold out verandas.
