Fashioned to fit the life of an American silver screen legend and cultural icon, Katherine Haughton Hepburn's legacy serves as a model of aesthetic aptness that powers the spirit of a modern private space for Kohler. Wanting a bath suite worthy of this Athena; the suite was conceived with courage, tact, beauty and timelessness. But modernizing the design meant asking, what would this goddess want today?

Rich fixtures mimic the shape of the volume around which a woman would most comfortably wrap her elegant hand, and appropriately have a weighty, permanent presence worthy of that elegance. Green glass tiles, notched out and back-painted silver give off the creamy light of limestone columns glowing under misty moonlight. Against the deep purple-black tiles, the bathing area positively glows. The mood starts with a set of colors and luster, which are refined to interrelate such that each color accentuates the next, and the whole takes on the opalescence of an oiled gem. Shower doors are finished off in nickeled brass louvered shutters in a split panel design, allowing for partial opening. The louvers adjust by control of a handle that descends one side of the casing, providing the desired ventilation without detracting from the intimacy of the shower space.
